Duke Buckner is an attorney and native of Walterboro, South Carolina. He graduated from Walterboro High School in 1990 and earned a B.A. in English Education from South Carolina State University in 1994, followed by a J.D. from Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad Law Center in 2006. Buckner began his career as a middle and high school English teacher before founding the first African-American-owned weekly newspaper in Colleton County. As an attorney, he worked as a public defender in Florida before returning to Walterboro in 2009, where he was elected to the Walterboro City Council and served on the Airport Commission. He has also helped organize the Lowcountry International Society, a nonprofit promoting international cultures and education. Buckner is running for U.S. Senate with a platform centered on reducing government spending and the national debt, protecting constitutional freedoms, making housing more affordable, building a stronger economy through job creation and workforce training, and holding Washington accountable.
